2019’s epic film Gully Boy, directed by Zoya Akhtar went on to break all records at the recently held 65th Filmfare Awards 2020. The movie won in all the 13 categories it was nominated in. It also holds the distinction of bagging the most-number awards for a single film ever at Filmfare. Ranveer got awarded as the Best Actor while Zoya Akhtar received the Best Director for Gully Boy. Despite Ranveer Singh playing the protagonist in the film, Alia Bhatt‘s incredible performance as Safeena fetched her Filmfare Best Actress Award. Beaming with joy with her Filmfare Awards 2020 victory, actor Alia Bhatt expressed gratitude towards the cast and crew of the movie Gully Boy, directed by Zoya Akhtar. During the acceptance speech, the 26-year-old star got into her Safeena mode once again and had the best thing to say to Ranveer Singh aka Muraad. Released last year in February, Gully Boy was produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the Excel Entertainment banner in association with Tiger Baby. The movie was directed by Zoya Akhtar. The movie, focussing on the underground rap movement in India, also featured Kalki Koechlin, Vijay Raaz, and Vijay Varma in pivotal roles.
Gully Boy bagged the awards in all the major categories at the Filmfare Awards 2020 including Best Actor (Female) for Alia Bhatt, Best Director for Zoya Akhtar, Best Lyricist, Best Supporting Actor (Male, Female) for Siddhant Chaturvedi and Amruta Subhash, respectively, Best Screenplay, Best Album, Best Dialogue and Best Cinematography among others.
