Amar Singh Chamkila was one of the Punjabi singers who was assassinated at an early age. Not just Chamkila but his wife Amarjot was also shot dead. The mystery around their death remains unsolved even now. Meanwhile, not many people are aware that the Amarjot was not Amar Singh Chamkila’s first wife. Before Amarjot, Chamkila was married to a woman named Gurmail Kaur. Last week, when a special screening of Netflix’s film Amar Singh Chamkila was held in Mumbai, Gurmail Kaur made a very rare appearance. After her appearance at the screening, one of Gurmail’s videos where she was seen talking about Amarjot is now doing rounds on the internet. In the video, Gurmail was seen saying how well she got along with Amarjot.
Gurmail appeared for an interview with Mitti’s YouTube channel where she said that she had cordial relations with Amarjot. Gurmail said, “Chamkila would visit alone and not bring Amarjot along. But she did visit me sometimes. There was no tension between us. We used to mingle well with each other. While she cooked vegetables, I made roti. She didn’t know how to make rotis. Even after the second marriage, it wasn’t like she was more important and I wasn’t special. Chamkila used to treat us equally and brought us similar things.”

Amar Singh Chamkila first tied the knot with Gurmail Kaur. With Kaur, Chamkila had two daughters named Amandeep and Kamaldeep Kaur. However, not many details about the duo’s separation are available. Later, Amar got married to Amarjot, who was the lead female singer in his band. Chamkila and Amarjot had a son whom they named Jaiman.
Gurmail Kaur often prefers to stay away from the media’s glare. However, she made her rare appearance when she attended the premiere of Amar Singh Chamkila in Mumbai, and a bunch of videos of her started doing rounds on the internet. Gurmail was accompanied by Amar and Amarjot’s son Jaiman on the special night. The event also featured Diljit Dosanjh who is the lead in Imtiaz Ali’s Film.
In one of the videos shared by Diljit Dosanjh, Gurmail was dressed in a simple churidar and met the Punjabi superstar. It was evident, that the late singer’s wife was overwhelmed during the event. She also shared a warm hug with Diljit Dosanjh on the red carpet.

Helmed by Imtiaz Ali, Amar Singh Chamkila features Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra in lead roles. The movie was released on the OTT giant Netflix on April 11, 2024. So far, the film has received good reviews. Diljit and Parineeti’s performance is also winning hearts.
