Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan recently shared an important update about his grandson Agastya Nanda’s upcoming film Ikkis. The film, which marks Agastya’s big-screen Bollywood debut, was earlier planned for a Christmas release. However, fans will now have to wait a little longer to watch the much-anticipated war drama in theatres.
Initially scheduled to release on December 25, Ikkis will now arrive on January 1, 2026. The announcement quickly caught attention, especially because of the timing and the speculation surrounding the reason behind the delay.
To put all rumours to rest, Amitabh Bachchan himself addressed the release date shift through a short post on X. The legendary actor, who is Agastya’s maternal grandfather, made it clear that the decision had nothing to do with box office competition or avoiding other films. Sharing the reason, Big B revealed that astrology played a key role in choosing the new release date.
He wrote exactly as follows, “IKKIS पहले पच्चीस (25) को थी, अब होगी छब्बीस (’26) , पहली (1) को ; कुछ ज्योतिष विद्या वाले कहे, भाई ,शगुन है अच्छा, चले चलो, बस चले चलो ,” Translation: “IKKIS was earlier on the twenty-fifth (25), now it will be in the twenty-sixth (’26), on the first (1st). Some people knowledgeable in astrology said, ‘Brother, the omen is good, keep moving, just keep moving.’”

Reports had suggested that Ikkis was postponed to avoid the strong box office run of Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar or upcoming releases like Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri and Avatar: Fire and Ash, helmed by James Cameron. However, Amitabh Bachchan’s statement confirmed that these films did not influence the decision.

Ikkis is not just a debut film for Agastya Nanda, but also carries emotional and historical weight. The film is based on the true story of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, India’s youngest recipient of the Param Vir Chakra. It showcases his bravery during the 1971 Indo-Pak War, focusing on the Battle of Basantar and his ultimate sacrifice for the nation. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Sriram Raghavan, the film promises a powerful and respectful portrayal of one of India’s greatest war heroes.
Apart from Agastya, the film introduces Simar Bhatia, who is making her debut as well. She is also related to the film industry, being Akshay Kumar’s niece. Another major highlight is that Ikkis marks the final big-screen appearance of legendary actor Dharmendra, adding deep emotional value to the project.
