Amid Sunjay Kapur’s Rs 30,000 crore estate feud, Priya Sachdev Kapur hits back at Delhi High Court, says, ‘Court here has no…’

Priya Kapur argues that the Delhi High Court cannot issue an injunction on Sunjay Kapur’s assets located in the US and UK, stating the court lacks jurisdiction over foreign properties.

A major inheritance matter involving a prominent family of late industrialist, Sunjay Kapur, has now reached the Delhi High Court. What initially appeared to be a routine step after a sudden death has turned into a complex and high-profile legal battle. With questions being raised from different sides of the family, and with assets spread across countries, the case has drawn attention not only for the personal conflict but also for the legal issues involved.

Priya Sachdev Kapur hits back

The dispute became sharper when Priya Sachdev Kapur, widow of Sunjay Kapur, appeared in court with her minor son, Azarius, and told the Delhi High Court that it does not have the authority to stop them from handling or seeking ownership of Sunjay’s overseas properties. These assets include immovable properties located in the US and the UK.

According to the latest update by news agency PTI, Priya Kapur’s counsel has stated that the issue of foreign assets is a matter of foreign jurisdiction. Hence, the Delhi High Court cannot stop them from seeking the title of Sunjay’s immovable properties abroad. Justice Jyoti Singh, who heard the injunction application that was filed by Karisma Kapoor’s children to restrain Priya Kapur from alienating them from Sunjay’s assets, further asked the parties to file their written submissions in the matter. The date for consideration has been listed as December 22.

Who filed the injunction request?

This submission was made in response to an injunction request filed by Sunjay’s children, Samaira and Kian, with actor Karisma Kapoor. They allege that Priya forged Sunjay’s will and want the court to stop her from altering or dealing with any of his assets until the will’s authenticity is examined. Their application claims the estate is valued at around ₹30,000 crore, adding to the intensity of the dispute.

During the hearing, Priya’s counsel clarified that she has no intention to sell shares in Aureus Investments Pvt Ltd, which were transferred to her after Sunjay’s death. However, they stressed that properties in the US and UK cannot be controlled or frozen by an Indian order. Representing the children, Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani argued that if the will is suspected to be forged, Priya must not be allowed to use it to claim titles abroad.

Priya is currently contesting the will while Sunjay’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, with Karisma Kapoor acting as their guardian, along with Sunjay’s mother and sister, have all questioned the document.
