Amitabh Bachchan is undeniably a megastar. He is one of the most successful actors that Hindi cinema has ever produced. Big B charmed audience with his iconic films like Deewar, Zanjeer, Sholay, Hum and many more. However, there was a phase in his career when he wanted to give up acting due to series of back-to-back flops. During this stressful period, it was Govinda who revived his career and bought him back into the business. Govinda was a superstar in 90s and became a top choice for every filmmaker. He was also know for boosting the careers of his fellow actors by collaborating with them.

The film that saved Amitabh Bachchan’s career

In 1988, Govinda collaborated with Amitabh Bachchan in David Dhawan’s Bade Miyan and Chote Miyan. The film’s success turned Big B’s destiny and saved his sinking career. During that time, the actor was going through a rough patch in his life. His films like Mrityudata and Major Saab failed to became box office hits. Moreover, Big B also tried his hands in a production venture, but failed to gain success in that. The actor reportedly had Rs 90 crore debt in his name and was thinking to quit acting after facing consecutive setbacks.

According to reports, David Dhawan approached Amitabh Bachchan and advised him to do a film with Govinda. Big B then signed Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, and it became a turning point in his life.

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan became a blockbuster success and the highest-grossing movie of 1998. It is considered one of the best comedy films of all time and was widely appreciated for Govinda and Amitabh Bachchan’s impeccable chemistry. The film also starred Ramya Krishnan and Raveena Tandon as lead actresses.
