Amitabh Bachchan, Bollywood’s legendary actor has ruled over the film industry for many years with his dialogue delivery and resilience the veteran actor showed in the film industry. However, even the great Big B had ups and downs in his career, the actor couldn’t find success during his early days working in cinema. Many of his couldn’t even reach a decent box office collection. However, his career changed after 1973 when he appeared in Zanjeer, where the actor found immense success and became an overnight star. Despite that Amitabh Bachchan went through a financial crisis after the purchase of a production company under the name of Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited (ABCL) faced bankruptcy. Big B had to live his life with a whopping debt of Rs 90 crore on his shoulders. Looking at his father’s huge financial debt, Abhishek Bachchan left his academics to support his father. Amitabh’s luck didn’t favour him none of the films could do a miracle at the box office.
A conversation of Abhishek Bachchan with YouTuber, Ranveer Allahbadia went viral on the internet, where the Dasvi actor mentioned the tough times. “Truth be told, I left university — I was studying in Boston University… I left my education because my father was going through this really rough time, financially. He had started this business called ABCL,” he recalled. Abhishek on the other hand, felt obligated that he had to return back to India to look after his family. He further expressed, “I called him and I said ‘You know Dad, I think I want to leave college halfway and come back and just be with you… At least you’ll know that your boy is next to you and he’s there for you’,” he explained. Amitabh, as Abhishek remembers, confided that “movies aren’t working out, the business isn’t working out, nothing is working out.”
Talking about the same with India Today Abhishek revealed, “That was undoubtedly one of the darkest periods of my 44-year-old career. I can never forget how creditors used to land at our door, be abusive, threatening, and demanding, and worse still when they came for ‘Kudkee’ at Prateeksha, our residence (sic).”
The Kalki actor made up his mind to repay the loans which was a burden on him. On the other hand, Big B changed himself. In one of the events recently, Rajinikanth opened up on how Amitabh sold his various properties across Mumbai. One day, he walked to Yash Chopra’s house wearing a monkey cap because he no longer had a driver, as he couldn’t pay them. He asked Yash for work. Yash immediately brought a signed cheque and gave it to him, but Amitji declined, saying he would take it only if he was given work,” said Rajinikanth. The Robot actor further expressed that, it was the only way Big B got to do Mohabbatein and was later allowed to host the popular show, Kaun Banega Crorepati.
Rajini concluded by saying, “He did anything and everything. He did all kinds of ads… For three years, despite having many health issues, he worked for 18 hours a day and cleared all his dues. Not just that; he bought back the old house; he bought a total of three houses in that same lane. That’s Amitabh Bachchan! He is 82 now and still works for 10 hours a day.”
