Amidst worldwide debates and discussions over gender equality, equal rights for men and women both at workplace and otherwise, gender pay gap, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan recently took to Twitter to clear his stand on the subject. It is about a week to go before we celebrate Women’s Day but Amitabh Bachchan has already made the most important statement for gender equality and you cannot miss it. While he has often championed the cause of the girl child and her importance, Amitabh went a step ahead Wednesday night.

He took to Twitter to post a very strong message, that will break all barriers of gender inequality. The superstar took to Twitter to share a photo of himself holding a placard which threw light on his intentions of splitting his property between his children Abhishek Bachchan and Shweta Nanda after his death. Using the hashtags #WeAreEqual and #GenderEquality, he wrote, ‘The picture says it all!’ Amitabh Bachchan’s placard read, “When I die, the assets that I shall leave behind, shall be shared equally between my daughter and my son.”

This move has a lot of relevance in India where traditionally a father bequeaths his all to his sons. Well, the world did need this powerful message and Amitabh Bachchan sets a perfect example for all those people who do not believe in sharing their properties equally between their sons and daughters, after their daughters get married. Despite courts coming to the aid of beleaguered daughters, the tradition continues as is. Taking to his blog, the actor seems to be talking about the image when he says, “The office of the public servants that promote various campaigns are keen for this .. and so I do it .. though talking about it and exhibiting its plea is hesitating for me ..” (ALSO READ: Here’s how Amitabh Bachchan saved himself from the embarrassment at Sarkar 3 trailer launch)

This is not the first time that the superstar has come out in favour of gender equality. Last year too, Amitabh Bachchan had made headlines when he had written an open letter addressed to both his granddaughters, Aaradhya and Navya Naveli, asking them to live life on their own terms and not to bend their will to social norms and conventions. Amitabh often mentions daughter Shweta on his social handles. He had earlier said in a post, “The most beautiful daughter in the whole world, Shweta, walks the ramp for Khosla Jani International .. a very very proud Father..”
We hope all the fathers out there do take inspiration from Mr. Bachchan!
