Despite the never-ending controversy surrounding the film, Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s magnum opus Padmaavat was released and is doing wonders at the box office; it’s all set to create history at the Indian box office. Padmaavat has been hitting the headlines ever since its release; not for Karni Sena’s protests but a different reason. While critics and audiences have approved of Bhansali’s narrative and the performances of the film’s leading actors Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and are showering with a lot of love and appreciation for Ranveer’s portrayal of Alauddin Khilji in the film, there are a few who are of an opinion that Padmaavat glorifies the practice of ‘Jauhar’.
One such person is the Bollywood actress Swara Bhasker, who wrote an open letter to Bhansali on Padmaavat, stating that she loved the grand scheme of things in the film but felt ‘reduced to a vagina’ after watching Ranveer’s movie. The actress has also spoken about freedom of speech and women empowerment in her open letter. Well, reacting to her letter, the writers of Padmaavat too released an open letter. Swara has got extreme reactions to her letter; while some agreed to what she has penned, some feel otherwise.
One such filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri took to Twitter to slam the actress and wrote, “We have interviewed many ‘ex-naxal’ women in Bastar. Each has gut-wrenching stories to tell, full of abuse, rape and misogyny If they marry, they aren’t allowed to have children. I think fake feminist @ReallySwara must make a trip to understand how the Real Vagina feels like. What women need to understand that it’s because of the fake feminists like @ReallySwara that the feminist movement gets jeopardised. You just can’t piss off people and win the most critical war of modern times – the gender empathy.” Reacting to this, shocked Swara tweeted back, which read, “I’m sorry did u just suggest that i go get myself raped? Like seriously? You typed out this tweet Vivek.? I’d say pretty low and sick even by your own abysmal standards of conduct & civility.” ALSO READ: What Does Shahid Kapoor Have To Say About Swara Bhasker’s Anti Padmaavat Letter?

And these women think they are taking the genuine feminist movement forward without realizing how they have reduced it from women’s empowerment to SM gossip. Who can be a bigger enemy of the women of India? https://t.co/1UyRgktrHM

Why is it that whenever we talk about empathy and understanding, fake feminists like @ReallySwara can only think of rape? You can say whatever you want, they end up translating it only with their sexually perverted dictionary. https://t.co/go6sjFR1PR

This did not stop here; Vivek replied back to her response and wrote, “Why is it that whenever we talk about empathy and understanding, fake feminists like @ReallySwara can only think of rape? You can say whatever you want, they end up translating it only with their sexually perverted dictionary.” Woah! From calling each other ‘a fake feminist’ and ‘sick’ respectively, the war of words seems to get even worse. So, what do you think about Vivek’s statement and Swara’s response to his tweet?
