Angrezi Medium Box Office Day 1: The Irrfan Khan starrer got badly affected by the outbreak of coronavirus in India and collected a single-digit figure of Rs 4 crore. The film received a mixed response from the critics and could not be released in Delhi, Kerala and Jammu & Kashmir amid the COVID-19 (coronavirus) scare. On Friday evening, even the Mumbai theatres were announced shut. The Homi Adajania directorial was expected to mint better on its opening day considering it was being seen as Irrfan’s comeback film after his cancer diagnosis last year. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh released latest Box Office figures of Angrezi Medium on Twitter and wrote, “#AngreziMedium Fri ₹ 4.03 cr. #India biz. The film also features Kareena Kapoor Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Kiku Sharda, Radhika Madan and Deepak Dobriyal in important roles. Angrezi Medium is the sequel to the 2017 film Hindi Medium that featured Irrfan with Pakistani actor Saba Qamar. While the first film commented on the expensive educational system in the country, the sequel shows the journey of a single father who tries his best to get his teenage daughter admission at one of London’s big universities.
Apart from Maddock Films’ Angrezi Medium, most other movies got pushed from their original release dates due to safety measures being taken amid the coronavirus pandemic. While Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi got indefinitely postponed, Malayalam film Marakkar Lion of the Arabian Sea starring Mohanlal, too, got delayed.
