The voice of this generation, Arijit Singh is known for shying away from the media despite his successful music career. The versatile singer started from a small reality television talent show called Fame Gurukul and made his way through from being a assistant music composer to the most successful singer of the current lot. The humble singer does not believe in making a lot of media appearances and prefers staying away from controversies. The singer who enthralled us with hits such as Tum Hi Ho, Kabira and Aayat has time and again been compared to his contemporary Atif Aslam. Although both Atif and Arijit cater to different genres somehow for the fans that comparison has always been inevitable. Now, finally the Arijit has spilled the beans about what he thinks about Atif Aslam!
Arijit considers Atif as a singer who has got better over a period of time; the singer revealed that his song Jeena Jeena from the move Badlapur has turned out pretty well. Interestingly both Jeena Jeena sung by Atif and Judai sung by Arijit became the most loved songs from the movie Badlapur. In a recent interview Arijit also spoke about how there is no need to bring the Pakistan-India approach when it comes to the music industry.
When he was asked about the controversies regarding Pakistani singers coming to Bollywood and singing Hindi songs, Arijit was quite outspoken about the whole issue. Arijit went on to speak about how music is beyond and boundaries; it is not important whether the artist is from India or Pakistan, but rather the music that counts. Arijit said, “It is totally absurd and a weird thing to say. I am an Indian singer- I sing not just in Hindi but in Urdu as well. Aren’t we huge fans of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Ghulam Ali? The place is not important when it comes to music. All this is nonsense. Music is beyond boundaries.”
Many other artists also spoke crass about other talented singers with bias. But it is rather reputable of Arijit Singh to talk about other artists from Pakistan with high opinion keeping in mind their flair of work for all these years. There was much angst when Pakistani Ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali’s concert was cancelled in Mumbai after opposition from the Shiv Sena party. The party claimed that conducting the singer’s concert would oppose cultural and sporting relations with the neighbouring country. So they protested to cancel the concert so long as it refused to curb terrorism. We guess the Atif vs Arijit war is not over yet, but the Arijit has for sure made it clear what he thinks about musicians who hail from Pakistan and how much he respects their work.
