Durgavati features Bhumi in the titular role. It’s reportedly a Hindi remake of Telugu horror film Bhaagamathie in which Anushka Shetty played the role of an IAS officer who gets possessed by the ghost of queen Bhaagamathie who was killed at a palace which now lies abandoned. Durgavati is being directed by G Ashok who also helmed the Telugu film. It’s backed by Akshay Kumar and Bhushan Kumar.
The shooting of Durgavati began in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Earlier, in an interview with Pune Mirror, Bhumi talked about the experience of shooting her first solo film. She said she is excited to be carrying a film on her shoulders and understands the pressure that comes with it. She was quoted saying, “It’s a very new narrative and a new story for me. I am carrying the entire film on my shoulders for the first time and really amazing people are associated with this film, so it’s going really well”.
Durgavati was announced in November last year and the shooting of the film began in mid-January. While announcing the film on social media, Bhumi expressed how she had waited so long for this project.
