Baaghi 2’s Mundiyan To Bach Ke Rahin Featuring Tiger Shroff And Disha Patani In Legal Trouble ?
The film is slated to release on March 30
Baaghi 2‘s song, “Mundiyan To Bach Ke Rahin” picturised on Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani has landed itself in legal soup. The song is a rehashed version of the 1996 hit Punjabi track by the same name composed by Charanjit Singh Maakar, and the late singer Labh Janjua. The song became a worldwide sensation when British-Punjabi singer, Rajinder Singh Rai made a bhangra remix version of the same label. It was then that both Channi and Labh decided to protect rights and notarised the track on October 2002, the very next year, which stated that one couldn’t reuse, re-create, film or compose it in any other language within the written consent of the two composers. However, when Channi saw the Baaghi 2 song, he was left in a state of shock.
“Imagine my shock when I was home in Punjab and saw a Hindi version of our song, “Mundiyan,” playing on TV. The words of the first two lines and the last stanza had been changed but it was still our song,” he told Mumbai Mirror. He then contacted numerous people associated with the film, that included producer, Sajid Nadiadwala, who declined to even entertain him. After ten of his calls went unattended, he sent legal notices to Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, director Ahmed Khan, music label T-Series, lyricist Ginni Diwan, music director Sandeep Shirodkar, singers Navraj Hans and Palak Muchhal and Tiger. Channi said, “The noticees deliberately deprived me of my royalty. It is not only cheating, but also disrespecting a legend like Labh.” Not just that, he also contacted the Indian Performing Rights Society Ltd, which has been paying him royalties for every time his song is used, for 16 years now, and the Central Board of Film Certification chief Prasoon Joshi.
Ashu Latawa, who happens to be Channi’s lawyer also filed a legal suit alleging plagiarism against the Baaghi 2 makers for changing the lyrics. The Punjabi singer has made a demand for damages costing not less than Rs 5 crore for Indian and international territories and that the song be promptly removed from the film’s audio-video promotions. He was quoted by the leading tabloid as saying, “Our next step will be seeking criminal and civil action since we have all appropriate documentation to obtain injunction and compliance orders,” he said.
