When Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif’s movie Baar Baar Dekho was announced, we were wondering if their chemistry would on screen. At the time, Katrina Kaif was dating Ranbir Kapoor while Sidharth Malhotra was with Alia Bhatt (he still is). But the trailer of Baar Baar Dekho and the song Kala Chashma was clue enough for us to realise that they will have good chemistry. Except that the movie is more about Sidharth Malhotra’s character than about Katrina Kaif’s. Here’s what we think of the film. Baar Baar Dekho is a time travel story, we all know. Umpteen Hollywood and some Bollywood movies have been made on it. You may find glimpses of some of them in Baar Baar Dekho, but ultimately it is heartwarming with the message it is giving. Baar Baar Dekho is not too Bollywoodish, thankfully, although it is co-produced by Karan Johar, the king of typical family dramas. But he also presented the cool Kapoor & Sons and so Baar Baar Dekho seems cool enough. Also, the main producers, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under their banner Excel Entertainment are known to produce uber cool films and the effect shows in Baar Baar Dekho. Also Read - Spotted! Sidharth Malhotra is Jai Verma, a mathematics genius who lives his entire life with logic. But one place where he finds no logic and pure love is with his childhood sweetheart Diya Kapoor (Katrina Kaif). He gets to be her husband, but ruins it all in the quest for excellence at his job and his passion that is mathematics. Will he win her over again? Will he get his family, parents, kids, wife back?
That’s what the time travel of Baar Baar Dekho will show you. It will also remind you to grab the important moments of your life, the present moments. In that sense, Baar Baar Dekho will teach you the same lessons that another Excel movie taught you – the Zoya Akhtar-directed Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara – live life and cherish its true moments before it’s too late!
Performances: Katrina Kaif and Sidharth Malhotra fit into their roles with ease, so do Ram Kapoor, Sarika, the kids and other characters. And it’s a good thing the movie does not have Ranbir Kapoor as the hero – he would’ve been too brooding. Sidharth Malhotra was a good choice for it!
Verdict: Baar Baar Dekho is a good watch for the weekend and definitely one that you can take your kids to. It’s a breezy, easy movie to watch, with not too much drama or heartbreak. It is soothing and feel good and director Nitya Mehra excels in her directorial debut. The music (Kala Chashma apart) and cinematography add to the ‘wonderful’ effect of the film. And it is certainly a slice-of-life film that all of us can relate to. Go watch it! ALSO READ: Baar Baar Dekho movie review: First reviews of Katrina Kaif-Sidharth Malhotra film are out!
