Kapil Sharma, who is known as the king of comedy, makes sure his audience gets a smile on their face. His show The Kapil Sharma Show dominated TV TRP charts for years. People wait for weekends to witness his episodes. He made his OTT debut with The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix. While his signature comedy format was expected to resonate well with the digital audience on Netflix, viewership has seen a noticeable decline by the time the third season was released. So far, five episodes of The Great Indian Kapil Show have been released in Season 3.
The third season of The Great Indian Kapil Show saw a new addition to the lineup – the return of the OG, Navjot Singh Sidhu, alongside Archana Puran Singh. Kapil Sharma, along with Sunil Grover, Krushna Abhishek, and Kiku Sharda, form the backbone of the show. Their comic timing and the characters they portray remain unmatched.
The first three episodes of The Great Indian Kapil Show ranked in Netflix’s global Top 10 non-English shows. The first episode was of Salman Khan, released on June 21. The second episode featured Metro In Dino cast, released on June 28. On July 8, the audience witnessed Indian cricketers Gambhir, Pant, Chahal and Sharma. However, the last two episodes have dropped out of the list, indicating that the initial momentum is slowing down. The premiere episode of Season 3, which featured Salman Khan as a guest, garnered 1.6 million views and 1.9 million viewing hours.
Netflix calculates views by dividing the total viewing hours by the runtime of the episode, which means the figures do not represent unique viewers. The second episode, which featured the cast of Metro In Dino, received a total of 2 million views in the first two weeks. However, this number combines views from both the first and second episodes. Netflix has not released individual viewership data for the second episode.
In the third week, the episode featuring cricketers Gautam Gambhir, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Rishabh Pant saw a further drop in viewership. Netflix reported that the combined views of all three episodes had declined to 1.2 million. This downward trend continued, and the most recent two episodes have now completely disappeared from the platform’s global charts.
Despite the drop in audience numbers, The Great Indian Kapil Show remains one of the most popular shows on Netflix India. However, given the declining figures on the global charts, the creators and Netflix may consider revising their strategy to win back the original audience. ‘
Upcoming episodes will feature popular content creators such as Raj Shamani, Saurabh Dwivedi, Kamiya Jani, and Samdish Bhatia.
