Fans of Vijay Deverakonda received disappointing news recently as the much-anticipated sequel to his 2025 action thriller Kingdom has been officially shelved. Speculations had been swirling for months about the next chapter of the film, but producer Naga Vamsi confirmed that the project will no longer move forward. The announcement has left fans both shocked and curious about what this means for the actor’s upcoming work.
Kingdom, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, starred Vijay Deverakonda in the lead role alongside Satyadev and Bhagyashri Borse. The film, originally developed as VD12 during production, was planned as the first instalment of a multi-film franchise. The sequel was meant to continue the story of Vijay’s character, a troubled police officer on an undercover mission. However, despite fan hopes, producer Naga Vamsi confirmed in a recent interview that Kingdom 2 will not happen.
In the interview, Naga Vamsi said, “Yeah, there is no Kingdom 2.” When asked why the franchise was not continued, he explained that the decision was not about the director or cast but simply about moving on creatively. He added that the focus is now on other projects and assured fans that he will continue collaborating with Gowtam Tinnanuri on a new film in the future.
The first Kingdom film followed Vijay Deverakonda as a police officer grappling with both personal and professional challenges. While the action sequences and psychological drama were praised, the film received mixed reviews and did not perform strongly at the box office. Many fans were hoping that the unresolved storylines from the first film would be addressed in the sequel, making the shelving of Kingdom 2 particularly surprising.
Although the franchise is ending prematurely, Vijay Deverakonda has exciting projects lined up. The actor is currently working on Rowdy Janardhana, described as an intense action film. Scheduled for release in 2026, this project promises to deliver the high-octane performances and gripping drama that fans have come to expect from the actor.
Meanwhile, popular on-screen pair Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna are reportedly set to marry on February 26, 2026, in a grand yet intimate destination wedding. The couple has finalized a heritage palace property in Udaipur, Rajasthan, to host the ceremony, which is expected to blend South Indian and Rajasthani traditions.
