In 2002, a film was released in theaters that sent shivers down the spine of everyone who watched it. That film was Raaz, which not only became a blockbuster at the box office but also had a soundtrack that turned into a massive hit. However, very few people know that films titled Raaz had been released twice before 2002. After its success, three more movies were made with the same name.

Let’s take a look at all of them one by one:

Raaz (1967): The first Raaz film was released in 1967, directed by Ravindra Dave. It was a romantic thriller produced by GP Sippy under the banner of Sippy Films. The film starred Rajesh Khanna, Babita, I.S. Johar, and Asit Sen in pivotal roles. Despite receiving positive reviews, it failed to make it to the list of the top 10 highest-grossing films of that year.

Raaz (1981): The second Raaz hit the screens in 1981, directed by Harmesh Malhotra. This thriller starred Raj Babbar and Sulakshana Pandit and was a remake of the 1976 Kannada film Premada Kanike. While it had a decent run, it performed only moderately at the box office.

Raaz (2002): The third Raaz changed everything. Directed by Vikram Bhatt, this horror film became an instant hit, captivating audiences with its eerie storyline and spine-chilling moments. Starring Dino Morea and Bipasha Basu in lead roles, with Malini Sharma and Ashutosh Rana in supporting parts, the film became the third highest-grossing movie of 2002. Its soundtrack also became a massive success, further cementing its blockbuster status.

Raaz: The Mystery Continues (2009): The fourth Raaz film, released in 2009 and directed by Mohit Suri, was also a horror film. Starring Emraan Hashmi, Kangana Ranaut, and Adhyayan Suman, with Jackie Shroff in a special role, the movie was marketed as part of the Raaz series. However, it was not a direct sequel to the 2002 film. The movie received an average response at the box office.

Raaz 3: The Third Dimension (2012): In 2012, Raaz returned with its fifth installment, Raaz 3, directed by Vikram Bhatt and co-produced by Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt. The film marked Bipasha Basu’s return to the franchise after being absent in the second installment. She played the lead role, with Emraan Hashmi as her co-star. The film was released in 3D, making it a unique entry in the series.

Raaz: Reboot (2016): The sixth and final film in the Raaz series, Raaz: Reboot, was released in 2016. Directed and written by Vikram Bhatt, it starred Emraan Hashmi alongside Kriti Kharbanda and Gaurav Arora. Like its predecessors, it was a horror thriller, but it received mixed reviews and had a lukewarm box office performance.
