Bigg Boss, one of India’s most-watched reality shows, has kept audiences hooked for nearly two decades. Over the years, several celebrities, including Arshad Warsi, Shilpa Shetty, Amitabh Bachchan, and Farah Khan, have taken turns hosting the show. But it was in 2010, with Bigg Boss 4, that Salman Khan took charge as the permanent host.
Since then, the superstar’s commanding screen presence, sharp one-liners, and ability to school contestants when required have become a major attraction. For fans, weekends are now synonymous with Salman Khan, making him the face of Bigg Boss. Naturally, such popularity and demand come with a heavy price tag, and Salman’s paycheck has only grown bigger with every season.
When Salman first joined as host in 2010, the show witnessed a massive jump in popularity. Contestants often mention how nervous they are during his “Weekend Ka Vaar” episodes, where he doesn’t hesitate to call them out for bad behaviour.
According to reports, Salman initially charged Rs 11 crore per episode for Bigg Boss 11, a season that drew massive TRPs and cemented his dominance on Indian television.
Salman Khan’s fee has witnessed a steady rise:
Bigg Boss 11 – Rs 11 crore per episode (as per India TV reports)
Bigg Boss 12 – Rs 14 crore per episode (India Today)
Bigg Boss 13 – Rs 15 crore per episode
Bigg Boss 14 – Rs 20 crore per episode
Bigg Boss 15 – Rs 25 crore per episode, reportedly earning nearly Rs 350 crore for the full season
By the time of Bigg Boss 16, rumours even suggested that Salman was offered a whopping Rs 1000 crore, though those figures were dismissed as gossip.
Reports around Bigg Boss 17 indicated Salman’s fee dropped slightly to around Rs 12 crore per episode. Still, his paycheck continued to be the most talked-about aspect of the show.
For Bigg Boss 18, The Economic Times reported that Salman charged nearly Rs 60 crore for the season, maintaining his status as the highest-paid television host in the country.
As Bigg Boss 19 airs, buzz around Salman’s remuneration has once again grabbed attention. Multiple reports claim that the superstar is pocketing around Rs 150 crore for this season alone.
While exact figures are rarely confirmed by Salman or the channel, industry insiders suggest that the makers are more than willing to pay him such staggering amounts. After all, his presence directly influences the TRPs, advertisers, and overall appeal of the show.
The answer lies in a combination of popularity and consistency. With Salman as host, Bigg Boss has managed to remain India’s most talked-about reality show. His no-nonsense attitude, witty remarks, and star power continue to ensure that fans tune in, regardless of who the contestants are.
For producers, paying Salman such a fee is seen as an investment, one that guarantees visibility, drama, and sky-high ratings.
