As 2024 comes to an end, its safe to say that it was a bittersweet year for the Indian film industry. While films like Pushpa 2, Stree 2, Kalki 2898 AD, Shaitaan, Munjya delivered grand hits at the box office, few created hype, had potential but failed to impress both commercially and critically.
So, here is one high-budget film that featured superstars but still couldn’t make an impact on the audience and eventually flopped at the box office. The one we are talking about at present is Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff-starrer Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. Helmed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the film showed these two superstars for the first time in an action film.
Despite being made on a massive budget of Rs 350 crore, the film failed to attract audience to theatres after day 1 and eventually ended its business at box office by earning only Rs 111.49 crore. The action drama ended up losing Rs 250 crore.
Along with Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan featured Prithviraj Sukumaran as the antagonist. Manushi Chhillar and Alaya F were the leading ladies while Sonakshi Sinha was also seen in a special cameo appearance.
The film marks Akshay Kumar’s seventh box office failure in a row. However, the superstar can take a sigh of relief with his upcoming big-ticket releases like Welcome to the Jungle, Hera Pheri 3 and Jolly LLB 3. While the setback follows for Tiger Shroff, as his previous film Ganpath was also a big box office failure, hence ruining his further career trajectory.
After Bade Miyan Chote Miyan bombed at the box office, producer Vashu Bhagnani lodged an FIR against the film’s director Ali Abbas Zafar, co-producer Himanshu Mehra, and finance head Ekesh Randive. Bhagnani accused Zafar and his associates of conspiring to inflate the production budget and from the originally approved Rs.125 crore (excluding actor fees) to Rs.154 crore without proper justification. Other allegations included like forging invoices, overspending on luxury accommodations and siphoning off his money. This legal controversy reignited attention of industry observers and audiences alike regarding how the allegations impact those involved and the broader implications for Bollywood’s financial dealings.
