Actor Akshay Kumar might be performing in films that talk about bringing a social change in the country but he’s just not ready to join politics to become a bigger force to influence the same change around. The actor is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Kesari. His association with patriotic films in the past is great – Gold (2018), Airlift (2016), Rustom (2016), Naam Shabana (2017), Baby (2015), and Gabbar Is Back (2015) among many others. Now, with Kesari as well, he is trying to depict a celebrated chapter from pre-independence era on-screen. However, Akshay is not attempting to make his way into politics by doing these films which force the audience to think ‘nation first’. Also Read - Bas Behne Deti Hai 100% Return! In his latest interview with a film portal, Akshay stressed on the importance of films in bringing real change in the country. He said he’s happy to be associated with films that talk to the masses. Akshay was quoted by Film Companion saying, “Politics is not in my agenda at all. I feel that what I am doing through films, I will never be able to do it through politics. When I did Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017) I could see so many changes. After Padman (2018) I could see people talk about menstruation openly. It’s not a taboo in bigger cities at all and I hope it goes on and on and there should be no taboo at all in this country. So the power of cinema is unbelievable.” Also Read - Twinkle Khanna Discovers Her 'World is Filled With Creatures'
The actor added that when he was promoting Airlift in the year 2016, he was stunned to realise that not many people in the country knew about the actual incident that in fact, lies in the Guinness Book World Records. Akshay said, “I was shocked when I started doing publicity of Airlift no one knew about the incident and it is in the Guinness Book of World Records. Same with Kesari, not enough people know about it. We don’t know our own history.” Also Read - Atrangi Re: Sara Ali Khan's Look Will Remind You of Her Role in Sushant Singh Rajput's Kedarnath
Akshay has got an impressive lineup of films. After Kesari, he has got Good News, Mission Mangal, Housefull 4 and Hera Pheri 3 in the pipeline. The actor also talked about what made him find a balance between doing films with issues and the films which are out-and-out commercial entertainers. Akshay said, “I’m doing Housefull and a horror-comedy movie also. I just keep jumping because when I started my career the media said I could only do action. So I took that to my heart. I decided I don’t want any one image. I have succeeded in shifting gears.”
