Actors Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao‘s next film Mental Hai Kya has landed itself in a new controversy over its title. After the Indian Medical Association and Indian Psychiatric Society expressed their resentment with the title and the poster of the film, now TLLL Foundation (The Live Love Laugh Foundation) by Deepika Padukone has taken to social media to condemn the film for its poster and title. However, in response to the tweets by the foundation, Kangana’s sister and official spokesperson Rangoli Chandel has made a series of tweets asking them to ‘not jump the gun’ and act like ‘Karni Sena’ before watching the film. In a series of tweets, Rangoli has mentioned that Mental Hai Kya is not a film that disregards or stigmatize people suffering from mental illness. Rather it is a film that will help the larger cause through its characters and the story. Before this, Rangoli made another tweet releasing the official statement on behalf of Kangana over the entire hoopla. In her tweet, she wrote, “On behalf of Kangana all I want to say is that everyone will be proud of ‘Mental Hai Kya’ the topic and subject she has chosen will trigger relevant talk and discussions around the stigma 🙏” (sic)

Rangoli also requested all to refer to her as Kangana’s official spokesperson and be rest assured that the actor will not give anyone any chance to raise fingers at her in terms of encouraging insensitivity towards a grave problem like mental illness.

Calling the film’s poster and title ‘discriminative’, ‘degrading’ and ‘inhumane’, the IMA and IPS wrote to Prasoon Joshi, Chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and to the Prime Minister requesting them for a modification in the existing title of the film.

Mental Hai Kya is directed by Prakash Kovelamudi and produced by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures. The latest poster of the film features Rajkummar and Kangana trying to balance a blade on their tongue as the caption reads, ‘Sanity is Overrated.’ It is slated to hit the screens on June 21.
