Masked American DJ-producer, believed to be Chris Comstock, created headlines with hits like Alone and Silence and recently, DJ Marshmello, as he is popularly known, came down to India to collaborate with Pritam Chakraborty for a music video. As the fans waited on edge, the video was premiered on February 14, 2019. While the super cool custom mask of DJ Marshmellow and his lady partner in the video, donning a similar mask, comically grabbed attention as they recreated scenes of the songs from Shah Rukh Khan‘s movies, the real show-stealer was SRK himself. The video featured Pritam and singer Shirley Setia and while it marked an epic tribute to King Khan, his unexpected appearance in it won all hearts and set fans gushing.

Watch the video here:

The video opens to a car stopping before a crowd that awaits the star before some premiere. Out walks DJ Marshmello in his custom helmet-mask as he waves to the crowd and go inside while a confused Shirley looks on. Inside the screening, we hear the DJ and Pritam’s first ever hindi composition together and the visuals to the track draw references to some of SRK’s most iconic performances starting with an allusion to Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge wherein Marshmello can be seen playing the guitar in Raj’s signature way, standing in the middle of a mustard field while Simran comes running to him but trips down, probably because of the large mask, before she can make it to Raj’s arms.

Next we see DJ Marshmellow as SRK from Devdas in the heat of the song Dola Re Dola except that it has a comical twist with a milk bottle instead of wine and during the chorus of the song, the dancers start grooving to the iconic Kajra Re step. Up next is a reference to SRK’s 1998 blockbuster, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, where the protagonists Rahul and Anjali can be seen playing basketball with the DJ’s signature mask on. Chaiyya Chaiyya reference comes next, making the video more hilarious and has a reference to the movie Mohabbatien as well.

As the lyrics, “Oh Biba nach di” plays on, we see Pritam on screen waving victory signs for the shutterbugs while DJ Marshmello taps him on the shoulder, trying to get attention. The two greet each other and as Pritam leaves, another person wearing DJ’s signature mask walks in and stands next to him. The two pose for the shutterbugs when suddenly one of them lifts off their helmet to reveal it is none other than Bollywood’s heartthrob, SRK who pointing at the DJ says, “Marshmello. Naam toh suna hoga (You must’ve heard the name).”

The video has already garnered over 30 lakh views ever since its release. In an interview with Indian Express earlier, Marshmello, who is currently touring India as part of the Vh1 Supersonic festival,  had said, “India is so special to me. This is my third time here and I love it even more each time I come back. That’s why I wanted to make this trip even more special and give my fans here their own anthem. It was great to work with Pritam over the last few months and give the Mellogang Biba.” The event will also feature performances by Jaden Smith, Rudimental and Two Door Cinema Club.
