Gully Boy, which had performed pretty well at the box office on the first day of its release, saw a slight dip in earnings on the second day. Released on February 14, the movie, starring actors Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt and directed by Zoya Akhtar, had garnered a lot of attention and earned Rs 19.40 crore on the first day, the following day however it minted only Rs 13.10 crore. Ranveer and Alia have both been praised for their performance in the movie, which is about the hip-hop scene of Mumbai. Street rappers Divine and Naezy were the flagbearers for Zoya and music supervisor Ankur Tewari’s attempt at creating an authentic depiction of Mumbai’s “gully rap” scene, but the movie’s original soundtrack did include contributions that were made by several rappers, a pair of beatboxers, a veteran DJ and a producer.
While talking about the movie, Zoya had, while launching the trailer, said, “It is not a biopic on Divine and Naezy. It is a fictional story. It is inspired by them and their music. They worked with us on the script to make it authentic. There are a lot of things from their life but it is not a biopic.”
It would seem Ranveer is going to be giving us one hit after another, with movie Simmba also becoming a blockbuster. Alia too is climbing up the success ladder, with her movie Raazi becoming one of the highest-grossing Indian films featuring a female protagonist. She will next be seen in Kalank and Brahmastra.
