Karan Johar Talks About His Sexuality on Arbaaz Khan’s Show, Says ‘People Sound Like I Have a Disease’

Karan Johar says he deals with terrible abuses and trolls on social media every day but he has learnt to laugh it off

Filmmaker Karan Johar has once again talked about his sexual orientation. The director was present on a chat show with Arbaaz Khan where he was asked to comment on how people react to homosexuals in the country. Karan said that it doesn’t trouble him when people want to know about his sexual orientation but when they mock homosexuals and treat homosexuality as a sickness.

Karan, who has earlier refused to talk about his sexuality in his autobiography An Unsuitable Boy, said that the level of homophobia in the country bothers him. He said, “It is my prerogative to talk about my life, my sexuality, my orientation. It is up to me. What I have a problem with is that there’s a level of homophobia and that really bothers me because that’s to me is sick.” He added, “I mean you can talk about what you think my sexuality is, that is your prerogative, but if you are commenting and making gay sound bad that’s when I have a problem because that means you have a sick mind, an uninformed mind, and an uneducated thought process.”

He went on to talk about how he is trolled every day because of his sexual orientation. He said, “Every morning I wake up to abuse and it amuses me.” Karan said that it irks him when people talk like he is suffering from a disease. He said, “You can talk about me, but don’t make it sound like I have a disease or something is wrong with me and I should shut up because you think I am gay. Then you should shut up because you have no life. That’s the way I look at it.”

One of the most popular filmmakers of the country, KJo, also mentioned what kinds of comments he gets on social media on a daily basis. He said, “Twitter has the most abuse. I wake up to at least 200 hate posts saying, ‘Get out, you’re polluting our nation, you’re dirtying society’ or ‘Shove (IPC Section) 377 up your arse.’ I get this on a daily basis and I’ve learned to laugh it off.”
