It was in April that Marathi filmmaker, Sarika Mene claimed that Shoojit Sircar‘s October was a product of plagiarism. She claimed that it was plagiarised from her Marathi drama, Aarti — The Unknown Love Story. Well, as per latest development, the Varun Dhawan starrer film released on Amazon Prime, which has led Mene to send a legal notice to the makers and the streaming platform. Aarti had written the drama based on the life of her brother, Sunny Pawar, who stood by his girlfriend, Aarti Makwana, who was paralysed in a car accident till her death. In a statement to Mid-Day, Mene said, “We have to procure the rights to Sunny’s life story, so that no one else does this to us again. We don’t want money; we only want acknowledgement that this movie is based on his life.” The director reached out to the Screenwriters’ Association (SWA) about two months ago, which had ruled against her, although the organisation added that the source material for both the films may have been the real life incident of Pawar. Sircar, on the other hand, has not commented on the complaint yet. Also Read - Delhi: Cousins Stage Fake Kidnapping Inspired by Popular Web Series on Amazon Prime
Varun’s last Bollywood outing October was much appreciated by the audience and critics alike. Many have called it the actor’s best body of work so far. During the film’s promotions, Varun had said that October has been a very special film for him. At the screening he told the media, ‘October’ comes from an extremely special place from my heart because as my career forwarded, I just felt that I started becoming more selfish and I wanted to do a selfless character like Dan,” further adding that “Dan is within all of us, we have just forgotten it with time. Let’s not lose the humanity in human and that’s what I wanted to say with October.” Also Read - It's a Girl For Anushka Sharma, Virat Kohli!
