After the success of Meghna Gulzar‘s recent release Raazi, the filmmaker is all set to team up with Reliance Entertainment’s Phantom Films to produce an original series based on former Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria. The series is on the life of Maria and the cases he handled including the 1993 serial blasts and 26/11 terror attacks. He was also involved in many major anti-terror investigations. Reliance Entertainment took to their official Twitter handle and shared the news. Meghana too took to her Twitter to announce the big news and wrote, “Taut files of a top cop! An original series on the life and case files of former Mumbai CP,
#RakeshMaria. Excited to be telling these stories with @RelianceEnt @FuhSePhantom & #MadhuMantena http://bit.ly/SeriesRM“. Also Read - Vicky Kaushal Shares First Look as Celebrated Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw From Meghna Gulzar-Directed Biopic
Rakesh talked about the series and told indianexpress.com, “Mr Rakesh Maria’s life-experiences and his prolific career in law-enforcement are a powerful lens to explore the chronology of crime and terror, in our society – as a city, as well as, as a country and a geographical region. The potential of this content is limitless, and that is supremely exciting for me. The collaboration with Reliance Entertainment’s Phantom Films and Madhu Mantena – both synonymous with cutting-edge narratives and vision – is a first I’m looking forward to greatly”.
This will not be the first time that Rakesh’s life will be presented in front of the audiences. The 2007 Anurag Kashyap film Black Friday, based on the 1993 blasts had Kay Kay Menon as Rakesh Maria. In another film The Attacks of 26/11 directed by Ram Gopal Varma, Rakesh’s role was played by one of Bollywood’s most versatile actor Nana Patekar. Vice chairman, Reliance Entertainment, Amitabh Jhunjhunwala told indianexpress.com, “We are delighted to partner with one of the most distinguished law enforcement officers of our times, Rakesh Maria, to present the courageous accomplishments of his career, and the unacknowledged contributions of thousands of members of the Mumbai Police, safeguarding the security of our city 24x7x365. We are also pleased that Meghna Gulzar, one of the country’s most talented young directors, is collaborating with us to present and direct the series”.
