Veteran actor Neena Gupta might be raving in her newfound success after Badhaai Ho but things were not so hunky-dory always. In her latest interview with a news channel, she has revealed more about her struggle of getting back into the industry. Neena has revealed how even when she had filmmaker friends in the industry, she was never offered a role and she holds big grudges against those friends. The actor mentioned the name of Mahesh Bhatt and his wife Soni Razdan. Neena was speaking to Rajeev Masand in an interview when she revealed each day had been a struggle when she was sitting at home without any work. The actor said what added to her struggle was the fact that she knew many people who could easily sign her for their films but none of them did. Talking about the Bhatts, she said, “I am so close to Soni (Razdan), Mahesh Bhatt. Mahesh ne mujhe kabhi kaam nahi diya. Kisine mujhe kaam nahi diya. I wonder why. The actor also mentioned an incident when she lost a Shekhar Kapur’s film because she never initiated to call him for work. She revealed that she had a word with Kapur on a flight and he said he would be calling her for a role in his film. However, when she returned to Mumbai, she never received a call back from the filmmaker. She added that later when they met, he told her he had signed someone else for the role because she never called him back. Neena said, “When I came back, I didn’t call him because he said he will call me. And later on, when he met me, he said, ‘Idiot! Even now when she has made a startling comeback with her performance in Badhaai Ho, Neena feels that ‘something is missing.’ In the same interview, the actor opened up on being ‘admired but not desired’. Neena said that even though she is loved and being appreciated, she is aware that she can’t be a star today – somebody who people dream of or wish to marry.
