The nominations list of the 64th Filmfare Awards was released yesterday, on March 14. Director Rajkumar Hirani‘s nomination in the Best Director category for helming Sanju hasn’t gone down well with the netizens. People on Twitter are fumed to see that Hirani has bagged himself a nomination under a reputed category despite being accused of sexual harassment by a colleague under the #MeToo movement. A female assistant from the sets of Sanju accused Hirani of ‘violating her mind and body’ for a period of six months. Following which his name was removed from the credits of Sonam Kapoor’s last released film Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga. The director denied the allegations, however, he hasn’t been proven guilty yet. As reported by Huffingpost, the girl who made the allegations also claimed to have written a complaint to the other members of the board on Hirani’s team, namely Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Anupama Chopra. She said on the email, “I remember forming these words on my lips – ‘Sir. This is wrong…Because of this power structure. You being the absolute power and me being a mere assistant, a nobody – I will never be able to express myself to you.’ My mind, body and heart were grossly violated that night and for the next 6 months.”
Denying the allegations, Hirani expressed his shock and questioned the complainant’s decision to go to media instead of seeking legal help in the matter. He released a statement and said, “I was completely shocked when these allegations were brought to my notice about two months back “I had suggested immediately that it is essential to take this matter to any committee or any legal body. The complainant has chosen to go to the media instead. I want to very strongly state that this is a false, malicious and mischievous story being spread with the sole intention of destroying my reputation.”
Notably, Sanju has been nominated in as many as seven categories this year at the popular Hindi film awards. The film features Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Dia Mirza and Sonam Kapoor in important roles. Filmfare Awards are scheduled to be organised on March 23.
