Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Ranbir Kapoor made their foray into Hindi film industry together with  Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya. The two will now be seen in Rajkumar Hirani’s highly awaited film Sanju post 12 years. Their crackling chemistry in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2007 drama left us in awe of their fresh paring. However, post the film’s release, there were speculations that two are not in the talking terms anymore. The maskali girl, who is known to speak her mind, recently cleared the air about alleged tiff with the actor and maintained that the two were always in touch and are friends.

While talking to DNA during Sanju promotions, Sonam said, “We were always in touch. We are friends. It’s just that we just didn’t get a film to do in between. He always does lead roles, I also want to do only leading parts. So, it never worked out.” Further, talking about Ranbir’s career, she said, “Ranbir doesn’t need anyone’s advice. He is very smart. He is also one of the finest actors we have in the industry today. Why does anyone need to tell him what he should do? He has also never really given me any advice.”

On being asked why she signed Sanju, the Veere Di Wedding actress told the leaving daily, “I did Sanju because of two major reasons. I always want to work with great directors, who don’t reduce women to mere caricatures. Raju sir is someone I have always admired and I’m happy I got to do a small role in this biopic. Also, Sanjay sir and my dad have been friends; so I have known him since I was a kid.” She added, “I don’t mind doing smaller roles as long as I have something to do in that screen time. Look at Bhaag Milkha Bhaag; where I played Biro who makes a difference to the leading man’s life. I can’t tell you what I play in Sanju, but it is definitely an important chapter of his life.”
