Bollywood has had quite a number of inspiring films on true events and soon another great story will hit theatres near you. Soorma is a film based on an extraordinary story of ex-captain of the National Hockey Team, Sandeep Singh, who was accidentally shot by an RPF jawan inside the Delhi-Kalka Shatabdi Express in 2006. After going through major injuries, the player decided to return to the fields in 2008 and helped India in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup to finish second. Sandeep was known as most dangerous drag-flickers and is also known as a ‘Flicker Singh.’ In this sports biopic, actor Diljit Dosanjh will be playing the role of Sandeep and Tapsee Pannu will be seen opposite Diljit. Recently, Diljit visited Sandeep’s hometown and met his family. The actor was gifted something really special by Sandeep’s father and it was the same hockey stick that Sandeep had it throughout the time he was paralyzed. Here are the pictures from the visit:

The story of the hockey stick comes this way that one day after being unconscious for days, Sandeep wakes up to his doctor saying that he will never be able to walk again. This did not break his heart. Instead, he had asked the doctor to not surround him with negativity. Sandeep rather told his brother Bikramjeet to get him his hockey stick to the hospital. Talking about the same, Sandeep told a leading Daily, “I wanted to stand on my feet again. I asked my brother to bring my hockey stick and kept it right in front of my eyes as a reminder to me that I had to play for India again.”

After recovering, the hero re-established himself and was appointed the captain of the National Hockey Team for India. It was during his captaincy that India had won several international tournaments including the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup where Sandeep scored the highest goals.
