Ajay Devgn is all geared up for his upcoming period drama Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior and will be playing the role of the unsung warrior Subedar Taanaji Malusare who fought alongside Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj. A source revealed to a leading daily, “the Taanaji team believes that Saif will make for an interesting choice to play Udaybhan Rathod, the Rajput officer and fortkeeper appointed by Jai Singh, chief of the Moghul army under Aurangzeb. The film recounts the Battle of Sinhagad in 1670, which was fought between Tanaji Malusare, a commander in Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s army, and Udaybhan. Directed by Om Raut, this film will be Ajay’s fourth project with Saif following the J.P. Dutta directorial LOC Kargil (2003), Milan Luthria’s Kachche Dhaage (1999) and Vishal Bharadwaj’s Omkara (2006) if Saif agrees on the role. The duo will be coming together after a gap of 12 years. Their last project together was Vishal Bhardwaj’s Omkara (2006), which was an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Othello. Saif was recently seen in the Netflix original Sacred Games with Nawazuddin Siddiqui, playing the role of an inspector.
