Actor Taapsee Pannu was among the first people who came out in the support of filmmaker Anurag Kashyap when actor Payal Ghosh accused him of sexual harassment a few days back. Now, in a detailed chat with Mumbai Mirror, Taapsee opened a bit more about her stand in the case and why she think Anurag is the man of high principles and someone who has only respected women in his life.

The actor, who’s scheduled to reunite with the filmmaker for a supernatural thriller, said that Anurag never believes in badmouthing a person even if the person has been all sorts of rude with him in public. Adding that a thorough probe should happen in this case and the truth should come out, Taapsee said that if his friend is found guilty, she’ll break all ties with him.

“Anurag has a lot of respect for women, never badmouths anyone even if that person hasn’t been kind to him in public. His is one of those rare sets where the number of women on the crew equals men, and they only have nice things to say about him. If someone has been harassed, let them initiate an investigation, let the truth come out. If he is found guilty, I’ll be the first person to break all ties with him. But if the investigation is inconclusive, how can the sanctity of the #MeToo movement be sustained?” said Taapsee.

The actor, who has moved to South to resume working on a film, went on to say that she speaks on controversial issues because she ‘can’t heartless and spineless.’ Taapsee said that the #MeToo movement is very important and women should understand that it’s a power ‘that has come to us after years of suppression’. The actor said that it’s our responsibility as women to not ‘derail the movement’ because ‘abusing power isn’t gender-specific.’

Meanwhile, Payal Ghosh has filed a police complaint against Anurag at the Versova police station while the filmmaker issued an official statement through his lawyer denying all the allegations.
