Veteran playback singers  Anuradha Paudwal and Kumar Sanu were recently honoured at the UK Houses of Parliament for their music and contribution towards the society. The function was held by the Members of Parliament from the lndo-British All Party Parliamentary Group, Houses of Parliament and hosted by Virendra Sharma MP, Chair of the Indo-British Party Parliamentary Group. The two gained popularity back in the 90s when they came out with many hit songs which are still remembered. The duo still continues to contribute their voices even today. “Music is my lifeline and when adulation and respect come from unexpected quarters, that too an invitation to be acknowledged in the historic and prestigious eight-decade-old House of Commons, it does feel great,” Anuradha said in a statement to IANS. “This is a small step from our side but we want to extend our support, in whatever we can. People who have achieved something in life are realising that we need to do something. Celebrities should come forward for causes like these and good thing is they do,” she added. Sanu believes that one needs to be educated to change one’s mindset. Anuradha has sung over 1500 songs and helps in solving issues related to malnutrition and electricity in Maharashtra’s Nandurbar district. Not just that, she even lends a hand to families of martyred soldiers. Anuradha is currently on a tour in London from where she will go to Sri Lanka and the US. She will be accompanied by Sanu. On the work front, Anuradha said, “There is a very interesting devotional project on Adi Shankaracharya’s works.” Anuradha has been a winner of many prestigious awards like Padmashri, Mother Teresa Award, National Award-winner and four-time Filmfare Award-winner.
