Vikas Bahl’s Sexual Harassment Allegations Case: Anurag Kashyap’s Lawyer Reveals Shocking Confession of Bahl, Says he Cried And Confirmed Everything
#MeToo: Anurag Kashyap's lawyer reveals how Vikas Bahl confirmed the incident and promised to go to rehab
As part of the ongoing #MeToo movement in the country, several big names from the Hindi film industry have been accused of sexual harassment by various women both from inside and outside the industry. One of the cases that have gained momentum is that of Vikas Bahl‘s. The filmmaker and co-owner of Phantom Films, Bahl was accused by his former employee of grave sexual misconduct.
Now, after the victim recently announced that she isn’t moving to court to process her allegations further, there’s something that Kashyap and Motwane’s lawyer has revealed. As reported by India Today, the lawyer representing the two partners in the case, Venkatesh Dhond has said that Bahl had already confessed the incident to Kashyap and also promised to go to rehab for his alcohol problem. He revealed, “He (Bahl) broke down and confirmed the incident, promising to go in for rehabilitation. This man has a drinking problem and he had promised to go to rehab as he cannot control his actions when he is drunk”.
According to the woman, the filmmaker entered his hotel room in a drunk state and masturbated at her back. He also allegedly kept refusing to apologise ever since the incident happened three years back in Goa at a professional party. The co-owner of his company, Anurag Kashyap, then announced that Phantom Films now stands dissolved following the allegations. Bahl then slapped a Rs 10-crore defamation suit against Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane.
Earlier, expressing disappointment over not being able to fight the allegations in court, Bahl, through his lawyer, told DNA that the victim has chosen an easy way out in the matter. Bahl’s legal representative, Senior Advocate Janak Dwarkadas, said that the allegations have “ruined his client’s life”. He added, “There cannot be such an easy way out. The allegation has ruined my (client’s) life, but it is immaterial to her. Now, I won’t have the opportunity to prove my innocence. My reputation in the industry has been tarnished at the hands of an alleged victim, who does not want to take any legal recourse”.
Explaining her stance of not pursuing the case in court, the victim had released a statement saying, “I have had enough and I am still suffering at the hands of this man even after three years. I do not want to be involved in litigation,” adding “I want to walk away and put the incident behind me. I have suffered a lot over the years. However, my liberty to pursue the case in the future should not be taken away.”
