Zoya Akhtar, the 45-year-old filmmaker, recently shared a post on Facebook for Humans of Bombay where she talked about her first panic attack and her relationship with her brother and Bollywood star, Farhan Akhtar. She also shares how she sought help to overcome her panic attack. Zoya is the older child of screenwriter Javed Akhtar and filmmaker Honey Irani. Zoya opened up and wrote a long post on Facebook for Humans of Bombay, a page that shares unique stories of individuals living in Mumbai.
Zoya says that her biggest challenge in life was when she had her first panic attack. She wrote, “My biggest challenge was when I had my first panic attack at 27. It’s not something you can ignore, you can’t sit around and get sucked into a rabbit hole. I chose to get help immediately. It took a while to work things out but I am fine now.” In her post, she also talked about her family and her relationship with her brother Farhan with whom she shares a “great relationship.”Coming from a family of movie lovers, Zoya shares about their same taste in films and having a crazy childhood. “Pieces of my life, no matter how scattered, are being stitched together and reflect in my work. The biggest piece is my family — from watching films like The Godfather on our dining room wall, to having a great relationship with my sibling. Or going on weekend trips with our cousins to the beach and eating all day… it’s been a crazy childhood; a ‘bohemian one’,” says Zoya.

She also adds that all that she has experienced in life is added to her work. Though she has done plenty of films liked what she has done, Zoya still believes that “one perfect film is yet to come… and that’s the best part.” Zoya is currently working on her upcoming film, Gully Boy, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt and is expected to release on 14 February 2019.
