A lot of films generate a great amount of anticipation among the audiences before their release but they fail to deliver. Here is one such Bollywood film that despite starring renowned stars couldn’t impress masses and critics. It generated massive buzz prior its release, however failed terribly when hit the silver screens. We are talking about Salman Khan’s big-budget film Race 3, which proved to be big-time disaster critically.

Race 3 was the third installment in the Race film series, following Race (2008) and Race 2 (2013). Directed by Remo D’souza, the action drama starred Salman Khan, Bobby Deol, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Daisy Shah, alongside returning actors like Anil Kapoor. Released in 2018, the film failed to resonate with audience, and critics panned it for its weak storyline and lackluster execution.

Despite negative reviews, Race 3 was declared a box office hit. Made in an estimate production of Rs 150 to 180 crore, the film grossed approximately Rs 295 crore worldwide. The film released on 4300 screens and collected Rs 285 crore on opening day in India, becoming one of the biggest opener of the year. Moreover, Race 3 became Salman’s fourth film to cross the Rs 100-crore-mark in three days after Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai. 

According to reports by Bollywood life, Amitabh Bachchan was offered Salman Khan-starrer but he turned it down to his prior work commitments. It was also reported that Saif Ali Khan decided to step back from the film as he was against the idea of him playing parallel lead opposite Salman Khan.

Well, Race 3 did not live up to the standards set by its predecessors. The failure highlighted the risks involved in changing key elements of a successful franchise. Moreover, it did affect lead actresses Daisy Shah and Jacqueline Fernandez’s film trajectory, who couldn’t deliver any big hit following its failure.

Well, producer Ramesh Taurani has confirmed the fourth installment of Race. Saif Ali Khan who was part of both successful prequels Race and Race 2, is expected to be making a comeback now in Race 4.
