Cannes Film Festival 2020 Postponed: The Cannes Film Festival has been postponed due to the spread of the coronavirus. Official confirmation was released from the Twitter handle of the film festival stating that the organisers are looking out to push it to June. The 2020 edition of the Cannes Film Festival was scheduled to take place from May 12 to 23 at the French Riviera. The speculations were already rife regarding the postponement of one of the largest film festivals in the world that sees celebrities, technicians, guests, audience, jury, executives to the French city from across the world. “Due to the health crisis and the development of the French and international situation, the Festival de Cannes will no longer be able to take place on the dates planned, from May 12 to 23. More info #Cannes2020” (sic), tweeted Festival de Cannes.



The rest of the official statement read, “At this time of global health crisis, our thoughts go to the victims of the COVID-19 and we express our solidarity with all of those who are fighting the disease. The Festival de Cannes cannot be held on the scheduled dates, from May 12 to 23. Several options are considered in order to preserve its running, the main one being a simple postponement, in Cannes, until the end of June-beginning of July.”

France is in its third day of lockdown as over 8800 deaths get reported worldwide and the number of confirmed cases in India rise to 194 with four deaths reported so far.

Earlier this week, the organisers of Met Gala also announced that the big fashion event stands postponed amid the spread of the COVID-19.
