June 6: Latest in a series of weird and completely illogical censorship decisions, is the Censor Board’s move to ban all references to the state of Punjab from the film ‘Udta Punjab’. The move came on Monday obviously netizens had much to say about it. For obvious reasons, the decision was touted not just impractical, but also absolutely preposterous. But it is typical of the Indian mentality- we shut out whatever we don’t like to talk about. We tend to white out the truth and hide the ugly truth, instead of promoting a discussion on dealing with the issues.
Twitter had no chill at all, after the news broke. Twitterati, ironically, started trending ‘Drugs Di Maa Di’, expressing anguish on the stupid decision to censor everything related to Punjab from the upcoming flick starring Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor and Diljit Dosanjh. While some people pointed out the political reasons for the ban (the state goes to polls in 2017), some others said that the decision reeked of hypocrisy, since the Board had no qualms in clearing some other films, showing a bunch of other objectionable stuff. Censor board is a piece of shit. Passes a film with nudity/vulagrity & demands cuts for a movie with message! What logic!

Enough is enough! Stand against drugs not against a movie that itself is against drug abuse!

These Naagin & Saas-Bahu serials showing abusive torture are ok but films like Udta Punjab showing reality are not.
