Woman making a point:

Tu leya de meinu golden jhumke..
Main kanna vich paavaan chum chum ke

You get me Golden earrings
I’ll kiss them and wear them in my ears.

Mann jaa ve… mainu shopping kara de
Please take me shopping

Mann jaa ve… romantic picture dikha de
Please show me a romantic movie

Requestaan paayiaan ve..
Chittiyaan kalaiyaan ve

I request you, I have white wrists

Oh baby meri chittiyan kalaiyan ve
Chittiyaan kalaiyaan ve
Oh baby meri white kalaiyaan ve
Chittiyaan kalaiyaan ve
Oh baby meri teri hisse aayiaan ve

I have got white wrists..white wrists, They’re yours now..

Man replying:

You’re my darling angel baby
White kalaaiyan drives me crazy
Shiney eyes glitty glitty glittery
You’re the like that makes me going hazy

Woman again making a point:

Mann jaa ve… gulabi chunni diva de

Please get me a pink scarf..

Mann jaa ve… colourful chudi pavaa de

Please get me some colorful bangles..

Requestaan paayiaan ve..
Chittiyaan kalaiyaan ve..

I request you..

White wrists…

Man replying again:

Ghumde phirde saare citiyaan milkiyan
Chittiyaan kalaaiyan ve (kalaaiyan ve..)
Tere hathaan nu chumda rehnda
tu lai liyaan, oh chittiyaan ve

I have roamed all the cities,
You have got White milky wrists..
I keep on kissing your hands..
White.. oh white..

The lyrics are suggestive that woman is asking for shopping, golden earrings, clothes and going to cinema. And in return the man will get to hold and kiss white wrists and we all know what that basically means. The least this songs promotes is consumerism and materialism over love and that too by using white wrists – which clearly sounds racist. Read: Roy movie review: Strictly meant for Ranbir Kapoor fans!

These kinds of songs in popular culture signifies, who women may offer themselves for things which can be bought by money. Therefore women offering themselves for golden earrings, shopping, going to cinema and other material things. The women is actually requesting the man to buy her things in lieu to the access to her “white wrists”. That sounds like prostitution.

Songs like these are an insult to women – and it is complete shame that these songs are featured in big movies. Women should be made to look like making these kind of dirty references, that women only want material benefits from men. This song also disrespects the loving relationship between a man and a woman. I look forward to views from readers on this as well.
