Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan have already impressed the movie fanatics in ‘Piku’. The two are going to reunite, to win the audiences hearts all over again and this time it’s for a gangster drama. The upcoming film will be directed by Honey Trehan and produced by Vishal Bhardwaj. This is the first time that Deepika and Vishal would be working together. The leggy lass who is currently busy with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film ‘Padmavati’, will be seen playing the role of mafia queen Rahima Khan widely known as Sapna Didi, reports a leading tabloid. And Irrfan would play the role of a local gangster, the man who falls in love with the mafia queen.
The upcoming movie is based on one of the chapters from the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. This book is written by former investigative journalist-turned-author S. Hussain Zaidi. Sapna Didi was one of the most feared female dons from the 80s and apparently Deepika Padukone loved the concept of playing her role, reports a source close to the film’s development. Mumbai Mirror further quoted the source saying, “Sapna Didi had planned Dawood’s execution during a cricket match in Sharjah to avenge her husband’s death. Unfortunately for her, he got wind of her plans and killed her days before she could get to him. The film is expected to go on the floors by the year-end.”
About Honey Trehan who is making his directorial debut, Vishal Bhardwaj said, “Honey has been a part of my life since before I made my first film. Launching him as a director after Abhishek Chaubey gives me deep joy. He will make a fine director.” Speaking about the most sought after actress in the industry Vishal added, “Deepika has been asking me to write a script for her for a long time. She has heard this script and loved it. We are in an advance stage of discussion with her.” (ALSO READ: Anushka Sharma is NOT replacing Deepika Padukone in Shah Rukh Khan’s dwarf movie)
