Rajinikanth’s Coolie, celebrating the superstar’s 50 years in cinema, faced a slowdown on Saturday, August 16, a day after the Independence Day holiday. Despite the dip, the film edged close to another landmark at the Indian box office—Rs 150 crore.

According to Sacnilk, Coolie minted Rs 24.29 crore by 7:00 PM on Saturday. The three-day total now stands at Rs 144.04 crore, with the final evening figures yet to be announced.

Was the opening day a record?

Yes. The grand opening of Coolie made it the biggest opener of 2025 in India. By the second day, it had already hit Rs 119.75 crore, surpassing the Rs 100 crore milestone. Both Rajinikanth and director Lokesh Kanagaraj achieved career-best openings, but the film hit a lull after its explosive start.
