Thalaivar Rajinikanth’s latest film, Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, has made a significant impact at the global box office. Released on August 14, 2025, the film has surpassed the lifetime earnings of Kamal Haasan’s Vikram within just six days, amassing a worldwide collection of Rs 418 crore.
As per Sacnilk, in India, Coolie garnered Rs 216 crore net and Rs 255.80 crore gross during its six-day run. Internationally, it collected Rs 162.20 crore, bringing its total to Rs 418 crore globally. However, after a strong hold, the multi-starrer has witnessed almost 25% dip on Wednesday. Coolie, now stands as Lokesh Kanagaraj’s second-highest-grossing film, as it has managed to surpass Vikram’s lifetime earnings of Rs 414.43 crore. Meanwhile, Thalapathy Vijay’s Leo still stands tall as it earned Rs 605.9 crore worldwide.
For Rajinikanth, Coolie stands as his third-highest-grossing film, trailing behind Shankar Shanmugam’s 2.0 (Rs 691 crore) and Nelson Dhilipkumar’s Jailer (Rs 604.5 crore). The film’s success is notable, especially considering its release coincided with a head-to-head clash with War 2, leading to a competitive box office environment.
Rajinikanth’s 2025 film Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is a high-octane Tamil action thriller that marks the superstar’s 171st film. Released on August 14, 2025, the film features Rajinikanth as Deva, a former daily wage worker with a mysterious past, who becomes entangled in gold smuggling operation. The narrative unfolds as Deva investigates the death of a close friend, leading him into a confrontation with a powerful crime syndicate.
The film is noted for its intense action sequences, emotional depth, and references to Rajinikanth’s earlier works, offering fans a blend of nostalgia. The ensemble cast includes Akkineni Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Soubin Shahir and Rachita Ram, with special appearances by Aamir Khan and Pooja Hegde. However it has also faced mixed reception mainly because it didn’t match the tight, grounded storytelling and world-building seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s previous hits like Kaithi, Master, and Vikram.
