Actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas encouraged her fans to do the namaste instead of handshake amid the outbreak of coronavirus. The former Miss World took to Instagram to share a tiny clip advocating the age-old Indian tradition of greeting others. She compiled the photos of herself folding hands to do the namaste. Priyanka wrote how this is one of the best ways to stay safe from being infected with COVID-19 which spreads from one person to another through physical contact. Doing namaste in front of the cameras has become one of Priyanka’s signature red carpet poses. She made sure to represent India through this tiny gesture wherever she went for work and got clicked. Little did she know that this Indian way of greeting and showing respect to others would turn a necessity in the times of coronavirus.
Earlier, actor Salman Khan also asked his followers to do namaste or salaam while staying away from shaking hands with each other.
Even the US President Donald Trump and Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar among other world leaders greeted each other at their official meeting in the traditional Indian way of namaste.
Meanwhile, WHO on Wednesday declared coronavirus a pandemic. Around 74 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in India so far with one death last night in Karnataka. Let’s stay safe!
