Gauri Shinde’s second film ‘Dear Zindagi’ starring Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles hit the silver screens today (November 25). The excitement to watch the film amongst movie buffs was quite high, thanks to the fabulous star cast, songs and picturesque locales. Above all the king of romance and the bubbly actress of the industry were sharing screen space for the first time and hence the audience had keen interest to watch the duo together as well. Though the buzz of the film was quite sufficient enough, it had a very average opening mainly due to its genre. It wasn’t any typical Bollywood masala flick but yet managed to grab eyeballs but the footfall at the theatres was quite low for such star cast.

After ‘English Vinglish’ fans were quite excited about Gauri Shinde’s second venture but it did not do that great at the domestic box office. Before the film released in India, it hit the theatres in the US, UK and UAE-GCC. ‘Dear Zindagi’ had a midweek release in the US been thanksgiving weekend and yesterday it released in UK and UAE-GCC. As per a report by trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film garnered Rs. 1.19 crore on Wednesday. Back home the film has got 50 per cent occupancy in the early shows.

Shah Rukh Khan’s film ‘Dear Zindagi’ opened with 1200 screens in India and 600 screens overseas. Even though the response in the first half of the day was quite low, it is expected to have a good response by evening and during the weekend as well. Trade expert Akshaye Rathi was quoted saying, “Picture this. Fan released around 4000 screens, Sultan hit 5000 screens. And this is just 1100 which is 1/5th of the screens that a Sultan released in. So it’s a very limited release. Some of the biggest single screens are not screening the film. The distributors too have played safe and targeted more multiplexes. But it doesn’t matter. The film doesn’t have to be a 100 crore film to become a hit film so the makers are already in a very safe zone,” reports DNA. The film has definitely received a good response in the US. Now let’s wait and watch how it turns to be in UK and UAE-GCC.
