Yash Raj Films produced and Maneesh Sharma directed FAN, might not have lived up to the expectations of the business gurus, but in an Interview to media, Shah Rukh Khan who portrayed both the character of the superstar film actor and his fan himself said that this movie will always be a close one to his heart. Khan, who once said that in his career span he wants to do five movies, which he can proudly show to his own children as one of his best works, Fan would be one of those movies for him.
A lot has been said about the movie and now critics of both the movie and Shah Rukh are done and dusted with them, until his next release. While many acknowledged the efforts in putting the movie in the final shape as it was seen in theatres, despite of all the loop holes of the story or even casting choice for the character of obsessed fan as SRK himself.
Some found his face irritating, while some criticized him for ‘trying-too hard’ to be a Delhi boy and the list goes on for his squeaky voice as Gaurav Channa. The movie was rarely appreciated for the efforts and technology used (read first of its kind technology to be used in Bollywood film production) and the level of production involved. Let alone be Shah Rukh Khan, Fan as a story and a cinematic experience was a treat for those who know how to appreciate efforts being made in homeland. As an audience which is matured and has all the worldly exposures to watch any kind of content, it is easy and obvious to ask for huge theatricals like of Interstellar or Inception or many more.
Those movies are on altogether different frequency and the makers didn’t achieve that frequency in one hit. For reference, Hollywood when started with the first Jurassic park movie, one should watch how fake those VFX looks now and how they come a long way to much more reality inducing VFX.
Bollywood has just started and ‘Bollywood‘ is not only about Shah Rukh Khan. There is much more to it, we all would agree. This is also true last many releases of Shah Rukh has not been much outstanding, and movies like Happy New Year was pathetic, and this blame has to be taken logically by each and everyone who has been part of the movie, but did that happen. No! What happen was it is SRK’s movie and he is not doing well. Well! Generalization has been the safest weapon to play with since ages. “I don’t think I’m good enough,” says SRK, adding, “I have not looked elsewhere. I’m a patriotic person. I’ve always wanted to do something great for Indian cinema, but not as an actor; that is not greatness. I wanted to work something out, where Indian cinema would gain from what I’ve done, like VFX, etc.” as reported on Hindustan Times
The reason I agree with Shah Rukh Khan when the actor says many a times that the whole team who worked on the film really did some next level hard work is because, that is very evident in every frame of the movie. The movie in terms of technology excels and creates a path for much greater work in the future, and that too here in our own homeland. The story absolutely is different from the other movies in the league, the climax was justified to the story.

Khan’s hard work in terms of his performance while portraying both the roles and justification with the characters, shows up all over the screen, taking dig at himself at times and even accepting himself as more psycho than the obsessed fan, well that are just few examples. The filmmakers have recently put deleted scene from the movie in their first raw form on Yash Raj Film’s youtube channel, before VFX processing and people should have a look at it to understand what goes into making things like these and putting together everything in the end just to hear, Oh! That’s the same thing he keeps doing. SRK is done.
In an recent interview to a Bollywood journalist, Ram Gopal Varma was asked if he would like to give advice to film stars in Bollywood, and in that rapid fire round, when he was asked to give advice to Shah Rukh Khan, he said SRK has time and again proved his stardom and so he doesn’t have to do it again now. Shah Rukh should use his stardom and intelligence and bring content like those of Inception or The Wolf of The Wall Street. We couldn’t agree more with RGV. And as an audience, I see Shah Rukh has been trying to bring content like those for long now. But efforts need appreciation to keep the motivation on. (ALSO READ: I am fan of SRK: Ram Gopal Varma)
So you go SRK! Go on to do much greater stuff and we believe the light is near.
