Designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee has donated 15 million (Rs 1.5 crore) to combat the growing spread of the coronavirus in India. The leading Indian designer contributed 10 million to the Prime Minister Relief Fund and the additional Rs 5 million to the West Bengal Chief Minister Relief Fund. Sabyasachi made the announcement on his official Instagram handle and posted a statement in which he mentioned that he doesn’t want to be praised or written about for his contribution because he is not doing a charity. The designer said that it’s his duty towards his country to unite with people and the government in providing the maximum he can in the times of the crisis. The popular designer who is now a prominent name in the international fashion world also made sure that everyone knows he has first taken care of his employees. Sabyasachi mentioned in his official statement on social media that his staff and the workers who contribute to his designs are being taken care of by him. A part of his statement on Instagram read, “I don’t normally like to speak about anything that doesn’t directly pertain to my work, especially related to financial matters, because these are personal aspects of our lives. Sabyasachi went on to say how this is the time to come out and help each other to the best of our potential. He wrote, “Let me not mince words, I do not consider this as a charity, nor do I seek any kind of praise. Everything we do today combats the massive challenges that we are facing as a nation and as a world. Our investment in today’s efforts will come back to us all exponentially in the future.
