TV actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee has faced trolling before, ever since she married Shanwaz Shaikh in December 2022, critics have targeted her personal life. But this time, the hate has gone too far. Her young son, Joy, born in December 2024, has become the target of online abuse, with people making derogatory comments about his appearance.

What did Devoleena say about the trolling?

“Being a celebrity, I accept trolling, whether it’s for my work or lifestyle. I always knew that where there is love, there will also be hate. People even questioned my marriage, but I stayed silent because it was my decision,” she said.

However, she made it clear that silence should not be mistaken for weakness. “Some people are targeting my son, Joy and making racist comments, which is a crime. I know when my son grows up, he will face such situations bravely, because he is my son.”

What action has she taken?

Devoleena has decided to take a strong stand against racism. She shared screenshots of hateful comments on social media and revealed she has filed a cybercrime case.

“I am taking a step against colour discrimination. I hope for a society where there is no discrimination and everyone can enjoy their rights freely. We must stand against prejudice in our daily lives. Those who make racist or insulting remarks should not be tolerated, and action must be taken against them,” she stated.

Gratitude for the cybercrime team

The actress thanked the cybercrime authorities for taking her complaint seriously. “Now I have taken the legal route and will ensure those who trolled are punished. I don’t want any other parents or children to suffer this. Some trolls have disappeared from social media, but they will be found.”

A note on her personal life

Devoleena married her gym trainer, Shanwaz Shaikh, in 2022. Two years later, they welcomed their son Joy. Now, instead of enjoying motherhood in peace, she finds herself fighting an ugly battle against online hate, one she is determined to win.
