The entire Indian film industry is currently engulfed in grief after the demise of legendary actor Dharmendra. Known as the He-Man of Bollywood, Dharmendra was known for his timeless charm, impeccable acting skills, and warm and strong personality. Headlining more than 350 films in his long career trajectory, Dharmendra’s aura resonated across generations. As the fraternity, his family, and his fans continue to mourn his loss, some of his throwback pictures and a letter he wrote to his wife, Hema Malini, and daughter have resurfaced.
Amid the waves of condolences and tributes, one of the most touching moments came from Dharmendra’s daughter, Esha Deol. She is often seen posting throwback pictures from her childhood, and now one of her posts with her father from her childhood days is creating a buzz.
In the picture, young Esha, dressed in a pink outfit, can be seen posing beside her father as he relaxed on a sofa during one of his outdoor shoots in the 80s. Sharing the picture on Instagram earlier, she had written, “Never understood why I couldn’t keep a straight face as a kid in photos. I guess that explains the nautanki in me. With my darling papa at one of his outdoor shoots back in the 80s @aapkadharam.”
Around the same time, Dharmendra had shared a heartfelt social media note dedicated to his wife Hema Malini and daughters Esha and Ahana. In this message, he apologised for not being able to reach out to them personally, expressing both his vulnerability and enduring love.
His emotional note read, “Esha, Ahana, Hema and all my darling kids… loving Takhtani’s and Vohra’s I love you and respect you all from the core of my heart… age and illness is telling upon me I could have spoken personally to you…but…”
These words now resonate even deeper, capturing not just a father’s affection but a man’s gentle acceptance of time catching up with him.
Dharmendra had been keeping unwell for weeks, moving in and out of the hospital since November 1. Unfortunately, he passed away just days before what would have been his 90th birthday on December 8. His funeral took place on November 24 itself.
