Veteran Bollywood superstar Dharmendra is known for his fiery temperament, and one incident in particular stands out in the history of the industry. On one occasion, Dharmendra slapped this veteran actor, who is the brother of a star actor. This incident took place in front of a gathering at a party. Here’s the full story behind this physical altercation.
People usually find Dharmendra cool and composed on sets, however, it is the other way around when Dharmendra is seen off-set. In 1964, Dharmendra and actor Sanjay Khan worked together in the film Haqeeqat, where Dharmendra played a key role. At that time, Sanjay was a newcomer in the industry, so Dharmendra decided to host a party to help him and other actors mingle and network.
While Dharmendra hosted the party for Sanjay Khan’s entry in Bollywood, things turned in a matter of minutes until Sanjay Khan began drinking heavily. As the night continued, Sanjay started losing control and was tipsy. His behaviour became so irritating that he started passing inappropriate comments at the party which made others uncomfortable.
This did not sit well with Dharmendra, who was known for his no-nonsense attitude, especially when it came to respecting others in the industry. As Sanjay Khan’s behaviour went out of control, Dharmendra warned him several times. However, when Sanjay continued to insult the legendary actor, Om Prakash, Dharmendra had had enough. In front of everyone present, he slapped Sanjay Khan, shocking everyone at the party.
The next morning, Dharmendra feeling bad about the physical altercation, went to apologise to Feroz Khan, Sanjay’s elder brother. However, Feroz Khan understood the situation and rather than being angry with Dharmendra, he supported his actions acknowledging that his brother’s behaviour had been inappropriate. This incident is one of the many that reflects Dharmendra’s strong sense of respect and his unwillingness to tolerate disrespect, even in a social setting.
