Dhruv Rathee’s next video targets 'Rs 300 crore propaganda film', internet links it to Dhurandhar

Political commentator and YouTuber Dhruv Rathee has once again found himself at the centre of a fresh Bollywood controversy. Without naming the film directly, Rathee on Saturday hinted that his next video would “destroy a Rs 300 crore propaganda film,” a statement widely interpreted as a dig at Dhurandhar. This Ranveer Singh-led spy thriller recently crossed the Rs 300 crore mark at the domestic box office.

The tweet has sparked heated reactions online, with supporters and critics gearing up for yet another clash between the content creator and the makers of the film.

What exactly did Dhruv Rathee say?

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Rathee wrote, “It takes 1 YouTube video to destroy a Rs 300 crore propaganda film. And I guarantee you that the MELTDOWN after this video will be so bad. They’re not ready for this. Releasing tonight ;)”.

Though he avoided naming the film, the timing of the tweet and the box-office reference left little room for speculation. Many users in the replies immediately linked the statement to Dhurandhar, which released on December 5 and has since emerged as one of the biggest commercial successes of the year.

Why are people linking the post to Dhurandhar?

Dhurandhar recently crossed Rs 480 crore net in India and has earned close to Rs 740 crore worldwide, placing it firmly among the year’s top-grossing Indian films. Rathee’s mention of a “Rs 300 crore propaganda film” closely matches the film’s recent box-office milestone, making it the obvious target in the eyes of social media users.

This is not the first time Rathee has aimed at the film, which has remained under scrutiny for its political undertones since its trailer launch.

What was Rathee’s earlier clash with director Aditya Dhar?

In November, shortly after Dhurandhar’s trailer was released, Rathee publicly criticised director Aditya Dhar over the film’s violent imagery. He slammed the opening torture sequence, accusing the filmmaker of glorifying extreme violence.

In a strongly worded post, Rathee compared the visuals to real-life extremist propaganda and claimed such content could desensitise young audiences. He also accused the film of prioritising profit over responsibility, triggering a wave of backlash from fans of the movie and the director.

What is Dhurandhar about, and why is it controversial?

Dhurandhar features Ranveer Singh as an Indian spy operating undercover in Pakistan’s Lyari region, infiltrating criminal gangs to dismantle their alleged links to terror networks. While the film has been praised for its performances, scale and technical finesse, it has also drawn criticism for its political messaging.

Even actor Hrithik Roshan, while appreciating the film, publicly stated that he did not agree with its political stance, further fuelling debate.

The film also stars Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan and Sanjay Dutt. A sequel is already in the works and is slated for release in March 2026.

With Rathee’s promised video yet to drop, all eyes are now on whether his latest commentary will reignite the Dhurandhar debate—or push it into an even bigger storm.
