Deepika Padukone shocked all her fans and media when she opened up about depression and her battle with it. She set an example for a lot of other actors to come out in the open, share their experiences, spread awareness and normalcy to the issue, that it quite rightly deserves. The actress was recent in New Delhi, to launch the findings of a survey titled ‘How India perceives mental health’. She once again talked about the seriousness of the issues and how awareness about it hasn’t yet reached the desired level to bring about a healthy change. During her address, Deepika talked about the misconceptions attached to depression or with someone who is depressed. She said that it is often perceived as a luxury but that is not true. She said, “There is a misconception that depression happens to people who are successful. It can happen to anybody from any field, irrespective of their socio-economic background.” The actress further added, “People think that those who have too much time or money get into depression. Interestingly, it was only recently that Salman Khan had spoken about depression and had said that “he cannot have the luxury of being depressed.” The Race 3 star was at the TiE Global Summit last month where he said, “I see a lot of people going on vacations, but I cannot afford that luxury of taking a vacation.
